2010 Graduation Ceremony

Fall Creek Academy and Fountain Square Academy will celebrated their second high school graduation on May 26 at the War Memorial downtown with Quinn Buckner delivering the keynote speech.

Students at each school earned many college credits with several having earned as many as 30 college credits and 100 percent of the seniors were accepted to college, too. The 17 Fall Creek Academy seniors garnered more than $320,000 in academic scholarships (about $18,000 per student) from various universities and Historic Black Colleges. The list of schools include University of Indianapolis, Kentucky State, Bradley, DePauw, ISU, Tuskegee Institute, Wyland College, Fisk, IUPUI, Florida A&M, Franklin, Indiana Tech, St. Joseph, Central State, Wilmington, University of Dayton, St. Mary of the Woods, University of Texas, Ivy Tech and many others.

Both schools have some of the highest percentages of poor children in the city with Fall Creek having a free and reduced lunch population of 86% and Fountain Square having a F/R lunch population of 97%. The two schools are among a very few charter high schools to actually provide transportation, too. Both schools ranked in the top 10 in the county for "value added" growth from fall to spring in 2009, too.

Our 2009 valedictorian started with us as a 6th grader and failed ISTEP back then. However, she graduated with 33 college credits, was celebrated at the Ivy Tech 2009 graduation, and made the Dean's list at University of Southern Indiana her first semester and straight As her second semester.

Both schools are proud to take students who have not done well in traditional schools and help them complete their high school degree having earned numerous college credits. The schools hope to help future high school students earn as many as 60 college credits. Both schools pay for the student's college tuition (many of the classes are taken on college campuses) and pay for the text books and provide staff support to the students to ensure college success.
