College prep to lead Indiana

The University of Indianapolis's Center of Excellence in Leadership of Learning has endorsed Fall Creek Academy's "early college" program making Fall Creek Academy the 4th school in the state to receive this honor and the only Indiana high school to receive it this year. The endorsement follows a site visit team's review of the school based on a rigorous rubric following successful early college school models across the country. CELL leaders have asked Fall Creek Academy to serve as a "leader" school in helping the state of Indiana to further develop "early college" high schools throughout the state.

FCA is honored to receive this endorsement. It acknowledges the leadership of Dr. Anita Silverman, principal at Fall Creek Academy, and the school's consistent efforts to make sure college is not only an option, but a reality for students in Marion County. This year, Fall Creek Academy will follow on its 2009 success and graduate 17 more seniors, all of whom have already earned college credits with some students earning nearly 30 college credits. In 2009, all graduates had earned an average of 20 college credits and all were accepted to college. All students in the Class of 2010 have already been accepted to numerous colleges and universities and they have garnered more than $320,000 in academic scholarships. The school is 86% free and reduced lunch qualified and one of a few charter high schools to provide transportation.

Graduation is set for May 26 at 7 p.m. at the War Memorial in downtown Indianapolis and open to the public. Quinn Buckner will deliver the keynote address.
