Making Pre-Algebra and Algebra hands-on for students
December 18, 2009
Mr. Hakim's students have very few math manipulatives available to them as they work to grasp the beginning concepts of Algebra.
"The concepts of Algebra do not come easily to everyone. Most of my students are two or more years below grade level in math," said Mr. Hakim. "As a result, I have to work exceptionally hard to find interesting, interactive ways to not only close their math knowledge gap, but to also propel them forward towards future math success."
In effort to give his students more hands-on opportunities to grasp beginning Algebra concepts, he turned to Donors Choose to request a variety of Pre-Algebra and Algebra manipulatives for use in his classroom.
Now that the request has been fulfilled, he plans to integrate these requested manipulatives into his regular instruction. It will give him the opportunity to make his lessons even more interactive and interesting to the students and will make them more motivated about mastering the material covered.
